YMCA International Camp Counselor Program ICCP annually brings thousands of young adults from all over the World to serve as staff at day and resident camps throughout the U.S., providing leadership opportunities for young adults while helping camps internationalize their programs.
Programs sponsored by ICCP Regular Program - Camp Counselor: International participants work during the summer (4 months maximum) in camping programs. Camp counselors work with children and adults providing leadership, programs and counseling.
- Summer Work and Travel: Offers international students the opportunity to experience American life during their school break. Summer Work and Travel participants (support staff) work (4 months maximum) in camps, YMCAs, non-profit organizations, conference centers and businesses in various positions: i.e. program, front desk, member service, waiters, cleaners; maintenance, office, etc.
- Winter Work Travel: provides support staff and program staff for Camps, Conference Centers and YMCA's that operate year round. (4 months maximum).
Direct Placement/Returning Staff Program Allows the opportunity to recruit and select your own camp staff and to bring back any International staff member to your site, regardless of country of origin or whether another organization previously sponsored the participant's visa. YMCA Trainee/Intern Program Provides training opportunities to foreign nationals in various fields up to 18 months. In addition, ICCP benefits your organization: - J-1 Visa: up to 4 months visa sponsorship (summer and winter) and up to 18 months sponsorship for the YMCA Trainee/Intern Programs.
- Access to your Own ICCP Account: Once you register with ICCP, you will have access to our database: Online applications, conduct your own searches, review your account, etc. Your account representative also selects specific applications for you to review.
- Orientations: ICCP offers the most comprehensive orientation to its participants to ensure they arrive at your site well-informed and ready to perform.
- Background checks: ICCP requires that all participants obtain criminal background checks as a condition for participation in the program. Police background checks are part of the application package.
- Health History Examination: ICCP participants are required to have a complete medical examination before their arrival at the Host Site. ICCP's health history form is very comprehensive and part of the application package also.
- Insurance coverage: ICCP provides participants up to 16 weeks of Sickness and Accident insurance.
- Selection and Recruitment: Our Overseas Partners around the world recruit ICCP participants based on the highest YMCA criteria. ICCP partners personally interview each potential counselor and support staff.
- Travel: ICCP overseas partners assist participants with their travel plans.
- Social Security: ICCP provides participants with a Social Security application and instructions to enable participants to arrive at your site ready to apply for the Social Security card.
- Site visits: ICCP staff, overseas recruiters, and volunteers visit host sites throughout the year.
- Year-Round Support: ICCP has an emergency duty officer 24/7 during non-office hours and holidays to assist you with any emergency situation related to the international staff.
- Program Evaluations: Host sites and participants are given the opportunity to evaluate the program and service every year.
- YMCA/ICCP Worldwide Events: As an ICCP customer you will be invited to join ICCP in recruitment, selection of participants and/or YMCA events around the world.
